Above the Passo Rolle, at 2,324 metres, the Cavallazza dominates the panorama over the Pale di San Martino. Where today there is silence, there was once a front.

During the First World War this ridge marked the border between the Kingdom of Italy and the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The still-visible trenches and fortifications tell of a different mountain: harsh, strategic, exposed.

You walk among the remains of military positions, passageways cut into the rock, observation points that look far into the distance.

The route is accessible to hikers with a basic level of fitness. This panoramic trek is an open-air museum, where nature has slowly covered the wounds of history.

Here the mountain is not just beauty. It is also narrative. And memory.
