HOTEL CONTINENTALE Trieste

TheClassic

History breathes here. We are in the heart of Trieste. At the heart of the meeting between Mitteleuropean culture and Italian tradition. A property is born that carries the flavour of another era, or rather, one suspended from time. Located in one of the city's historic buildings that witnessed the love between Giosuè Carducci and his muse Lina, Hotel Continentale is the address for contemporary luxury for those seeking an intimate and refined atmosphere, without stiffness. We are classic at heart, but always contemporary in our approach to hospitality. Never rigid. Always cocoon.

Our rooms

We have 47 rooms, with warm colours, like the wood of their parquet floors. Treasure boxes full of charm on a pedestrian street. The feeling you encounter is hushed: that of being, even today, in the middle of history.

TimelessCharm

It was the first hotel in Trieste, from the late 19th century, when it was called Albergo del Buon Pastore. Today, we have completely renovated it, focusing on the quality of sleep and in-room comfort, with high, soft next-generation mattresses alongside lighting and ventilation systems designed together with the University of Perugia to promote natural rest. The charm, that, remains the same as the Grand Hotels of a bygone era. Reinterpreted in The Begin Hotels way.

OurMicrocosm

Hotel Continentale is immersed in the Mitteleuropean Habsburg allure, on one of the city's central streets, five minutes' walk from Piazza Unità d'Italia and close to the Molo Audace. We are on Via San Nicolò, the same street where Joyce composed some chapters of Ulysses, where Saba walked every day past his antiquarian bookshop right opposite the hotel, and where Carducci must have made his way clandestinely at night to live out his love for Lina. This is the fortune of being a historic hotel, among the first a city this vibrant has ever had: the ability to tell the story of what has passed through here, and the story that continues to compose itself still.

Cafè Continentale

It is the city of historic cafés. And we have ours too. One that has truly witnessed the history of Trieste. Witness to the currents that have passed through. From the elegantly still one of the Habsburgs to the modernist winds that on this very street accompanied the walks of Svevo, Saba and Joyce. As well as the Bora, which from the Molo Audace penetrates right into Via San Nicolò and, in its whirlwind, always sets everything in motion again. A little like the style of our cuisine, which gives new form to the Classics.

Breakfast

We believe mornings should be slow and smell of coffee, or Nero, as we call it here in Trieste. That a good croissant and a granola we make ourselves are a small treat to accompany the yogurt. And that eggs are better prepared to order, when you ask for them done the way you like. Because it is the details that turn a daily ritual into an extraordinary parenthesis.

Experience

It is a port city. A melting-pot city. But still elegant, with its drawing room overlooking the sea. Here culture meets Nature and traditions. They overlap, to intertwine. And create particular, unseen experiences.

We are historic, but green

It is one of the first hotels born in the city at the beginning of the 1900s. It knows history, knows many stories. But that does not make it old. On the contrary, we have just renovated it and, in doing so, we chose to exalt the original beauty of the building we occupy. Combining the classic style of a Grand Hotel's rooms with environments that wink a contemporary eye at yesterday's atmospheres. Above all, we did it following the most modern sustainability criteria: we are the first historic hotel in the world to have obtained the new gold certification from LEED, the international body that rigorously evaluates renovation and waste reduction. Yes, we are also green, like the Pantone we chose for our walls.

A city forged by the sea. Which penetrates right into its central square. Piazza Unità d'Italia. Beautiful, magnificent. Suspended with its gaze forward, immersed in its legendary wind, so powerful it could make you fly. Mixing sky and waves, which take on the same colour. Just as the different cultures mix in this city. This is the Italian melting pot, which tells the story of this region. Trieste has the austere strength of a Habsburg empress, who was far-sighted enough to have made it the port of Europe. Of Mitteleuropa. Home of coffee, whose aromas echo today in the many cafés. Meeting points of the great modernists: Joyce, Saba and even Proust. Trieste sweeps away, with its refined beauty, all to be walked on foot: in the Jewish quarter, the Cavana, among the UNESCO heritage gardens of that gem set in the sea that is the Castello di Miramare. Trieste propels, like the sails of the Barcolana, the largest regatta in the world. Trieste makes you fall in love, as you walk through its streets.
